“My Name is Danny Zawerton,I began flying RC planes and collective pitch helicopters in 1989, I have been a part of this amazing hobby for over 30 years.I am not sure how to “tell” my story, but I will try my best, For the longest time, flying RC Aircraft for me was an amazing “hobby”………. building, gluing balsa, learning how to install servos, receivers, gyros and all the other components to make an RC Plane or collective pitch helicopter fly, was a pure joy……and sometimes very frustrating at times, many crashes, many broken wings and bent tail booms, stripped servo gears…..blah…blah…blah… but that is how we learn and progress……………..…but now……………….. I have since moved on to FPV………but to TRULY UNDERSTAND what this hobby means to me now is to know a little bit about me……………………… I am an Army Vet (62E Heavy Equip. Operator, 237 Eng. Battalion Heilbroon West Germany 1985-1989). I am a Electronics System Technician for a large Corporation providing programming support for Commercial Building Life Safety Systems…………..(Fire Alarm, Access Control, CCTV, Door Entry) I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 2012, this uncaring disease started out as a slight discomfort in my life………….but has since started taking away my ability to perform simple everyday tasks, walking is a huge challenge for me, my left hand dexterity has started to be impacted, memory issues can be a challenge at times, as well as always dealing with fatigue………..the list can go on…………but WE all have our own issues……….these are just mine There are 2 things that get me through life, my family……………. and FLYING FPV………. if not for flying FPV, I am 100% sure my daily struggles would be 1000% harder………. being able to lower the goggles over my eyes makes me forget about all that this retched disease has taken from me. Slalom & Barefoot water sking, mountain climbing, bike riding were all things I USED to be able to do, but not any more. When I am “in” the goggles I can, (at least for a few minutes) forget about the EVERYDAY reality that I have to deal with, Flying FPV is what makes the days of pain and frustration bearable……………….. The NPRM, if passed as is, will take away one of the things in my life that help and allow me to get through every day There are people that say “we must have regulation for safety” I do not buy this argument at all, the. There have been Model RC Hobbyists for well over 70 years with an IMPECCABLE safety record, we are a community of amazing and caring people that are being swept up in an over-reaching, over-regulating proposal that was obviously put together by individuals who know NOTHING or don’t care about the RC Aircraft Model Industry. The NPRM, as it stands MUST NOT BE ALLOWED TO PASS…….The only item I believe that needs to be regulated, is Beyond Line Of Site commercial UAS operations, Both fixed wing and multi-rotor I hope that this letter makes some kind of sense to whoever finds it, I have attached a picture, that puts a face to this letter, Please feel free to share this letter and picture with whoever might benefit from it.
