“I mostly fly home-made foam Flite Test type of airplanes at my home after work and on weekends with my children. It is a bonding time and a way to teach my children about flight and science. Limiting flight to a approved flying site would pretty much end the hobby for me and my family as it would eliminate any activity during the week due to the time it takes to get to and from the AMA field before dark and bed time for my children. It would take 2.5 to 3 hours to fly at a sanctioned site vs flying at my home for a few minutes before or after dinner with the family. I have a friend who is teaching a STEM class at a local school on a limited budget. Regulations will likely end his ability to have the class due to the financial impact and potential of limited flight locations. I have also been considering trying to start a STEM group at my children’s school, but the proposed regulations would likely end any chance of doing so. Please consider limited regulation for this great hobby that is barely affordable with low cost designs and cheap materials from local stores. I would hope that there would be no regulation at least for line of sight non-GPS planes that are amateur built. If the FAA must regulate, please keep it to long range high dollar craft. Also, what if the FAA just required registration on a free phone app that you could file a flight plan (location and general time frame with the FAA) before flying .
