“I have been active in model aviation for more than 20 years. I started with fixed-wing glow-powered balsa airplanes. Today I enjoy building and flying a variety of RC aircraft, both fixed-wing airplanes flown line of sight and quadcopters flown first-person-view. For me, the RC hobby is a way to relieve stress, to learn technology and technical skills and help others seeking to build their own skills, and to spend time relaxing with friends and family.
I am pleased that new technology has introduced so many new people to RC and made it easier for new RC pilots to be successful. I am also very concerned about the negative impact of regulations aimed at rare instances of criminal activity or the commercial use of drones. I am not opposed to regulation of UAS that fly autonomously and beyond visual line of sight over areas where people live and work. But there is no need to put an end to the RC hobby in order to allow drones to deliver packages.”
