“Amateur RC flying is something that we have done as a family. It is a unique hobby in that you don’t just go out and buy stuff and then play with it. You spend a good bit of time building, and learning the ins and outs of the hobby. Flying is obviously why we get into it but building our own planes and multi-rotors is just as rewarding. We started out using a drone simulator and spent hours on that before attempting our first drone flight. The quadcopters that we have built from scratch have been more stable and perform better than the majority of the stuff available to purchase pre-built. I think the 250g threshold is an arbitrary number and needs to be changed. It would be more realistic to have added restrictions on FPV quadcopters larger than 6″ class. The requirement for wifi seems counter-intuitive to encouraging people to fly away from populated areas.”
