“I started flying fixed-wing foam planes around 2012 and bought my first drone for $50 around 2015 and that quickly escalated into a more expensive gps enabled camera drone. In 2017 a coworker showed me a 5” fpv racing drone that he built and I immediately knew I had to have one. Within 2 weeks I had all the parts in front of me to build what was going to be a new chapter in my life. For the first year, I flew almost exclusively in my own backyard, very often with my daughter sitting next to me watching in a spare set of goggles. Fast forward to November 2019 I passed my part 107 exam with a 98% and I was ready to do some commercial work with my home-built drones(CineWhoop). After the NPRM was released the day after Christmas I was concerned but had no idea how this set of rules would hamper my business plan. One of the biggest problems for me is that there is no pathway to use amateur-built drones for commercial use, general aviation aircraft do not have this limitation and have a much poorer safety record than any kind of drones. Another unbelievable area is that you can’t fly on your own privet property even below 100′, does the FAA plan to have commercial drones fly that close to my house? Privacy; It is in no way acceptable to be forced to trust a 3rd party vendor that we have to pay to collect our own data and this data could be publicly available. I could go on but I need to feed my family dinner soon. I am trying to make plans to attend the protest in Washington DC at the end of February. Thank you for all that you are doing for “us”.
