“Although I have greatly enjoyed flying RC fixed wing aircraft and attempting to learn how to fly an RC helicopter over the years, I have always had a fascination with aerial photography, and when drone technology equipped with high quality cameras became available, it was like a dream come true for me. I have worked in the aviation industry for many years, but always knew the cost of ownership of a real aircraft was not feasible. I have mounted cameras to high lift kites, looked into purchasing a helium blimp with camera mounts as well as considered mounting a camera system to an RC helicopter. I could not seriously consider the helicopter method due to safety reasons for anyone in the area where it would be flown! Anyway, as I said above, drone technology was an absolute answer to my wishes. I enjoy doing aerial photography in rural areas, which equates to operating in many locations with poor or no cellphone coverage. The proposed regulations as currently drafted would pretty much destroy this immensely enjoyable hobby.”
