“I have been interested in models airplanes since I was a small boy. I’m retired now. Flying small models in local parks has been a source of enjoyment and pleasure all my life, as well as an opportunity to educate the neighborhood kids in science. I, and others in this area, have enjoyed and shared this hobby for decades. And those here who have obeyed the guidelines of the Academy of Model Aeronautics and local city ordinances have enjoyed the hobby safely.
The proposed regulation would effectively end all this. By imposing these burdensome regulations in the name of safety, you eliminate one of the already safest forms of flying and add little or nothing to public safety. Do you believe some experimental Amazon delivery drone, flying on inadequately-tested flight software and dropping boxes on my head, is safe because you know where it is? How can you impose a morass of rules that would prevent small models from flying when the same regulatory structure allows man-carrying ultralight aircraft to operate without such strictures?”
