“I began flying multi-rotors three years ago and love it. It’s provided hundreds of hours of enjoyment, that given the cost consideration of a private pilots license would be prohibitive for me and most others like me.
I have always flown in isolated areas away from the public for safety and seldom if ever fly much above the tree canopy (200 ft or less). EVERY drone pilot/ builder that I know does the same.
Those that learn to manually fly a drone (without auto leveling and GPS) and build/ tune them for themselves have invested a considerable amount of time and money into their passion and therefore respect the hobby and the safety considerations that would affect it.
Added to this there are considerable educational benefits to this hobby that inspires people to pursue stem fields.
These new rules are a massive overreaction to mostly inaccurate news headlines that play on the public fears of “drones” and overreach into personal freedoms that are unwarranted.
This knee jerk reaction will stifle innovation, restrict personal freedoms and unnecessarily destroy businesses.”
