“I got into the hobby in my late 20’s after going to a construction industry forum and seeing what drones were being used for in the construction industry. My mind was blown, and I was surprised that I hadn’t noticed this emerging technology that was being used for so many cool things. I decided to purchase a cheap drone off of Amazon and was immediately hooked. From that point, I found Joshua Bardwell on YouTube, along with people like Project Blue Falcon, Flite Test, Rotor Riot, etc. and decided I wanted to start building FPV Freestyle quads. Since that time I’ve added 2-3 drones to my collection each year. In my opinion, this has got to be one of the healthiest “adult hobbies” anyone could have – the amount of learning required across so many different areas really is astonishing. Because of FPV, I’ve had to learn about radio signals, basic electronics and skills like soldering, programming flight controllers, aerodynamics, and (unfortunately) the federal government’s regulation process. I have also been humbled by this community, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a group with a more diverse set of individuals who are as willing to share knowledge and expertise for free, both online and in my local area. I am proud to consider myself a member of the FPV community and will do everything I can to protect it against overly burdensome regulations – that will take away the “spirit” of the hobby as I know it today.”
