“Some of the best times of my life have been creating and flying model aircraft with my friends and family. I started in middle school and continued all the way through to college, where I am the pilot for a competition team. I’ve taught three different summer camps on model aircraft, where kids were incredibly excited to build and fly for themselves. I’ve mentored many people, and learned countless skills myself in this amazing hobby. These experiences helped shape my love for engineering, and helped me find a career. Exploring new places and making new friends has created so many treasured memories, and to see this hobby shut into a tiny box would kill almost all of these experiences, making it incredibly difficult for the next generations of fliers, makers, and students to pursue one of the most rewarding hobbies out there. STEM work is hard enough just challenging yourself, to make it this much harder would be disastrous. Learning to make and flying model aircraft is an incredible experience that has brought so much joy to me, my friends, and the people I’ve taught over the years. To restrict it would be cruel.”
