“I have been flying model aircraft since elementary school. It was instrumental in me choosing to be an aeronautical engineer. I have been an AMA member for a number of years and fly safely within line of sight. I normally fly at a city park, which has a runway and shelter to facilitate flying. I am a member and officer of a local club and we have an exceptional safety record. Flying is a way for me to enjoy the outdoors and fellowship with other like minded folks. It gives me an outlet for solving problems, working with my hands, creating things that fly and perform well, and passing skills along to others, including younger folks with an interest. It is hard for me to understand how a gun enthusiast or hunter can own and use a firearm with fewer restrictions than I will have flying a model airplane. There are a few bad folks that do not follow the safety rules. Prosecute them and leave the safe pilots alone!”
