“My family discovered model aviation in 2014, when my then seven year old son received a toy-grade remote control helicopter as a Christmas gift. As a father with no prior experience with RC model aircraft, I realized this was not something you could just hand to a kid and let him play with it by himself. I sought out information about model aviation from online forums and joined the AMA. A keen interest in model aviation was sparked by that simple Christmas gift. I enjoyed building small park-fliers and flying them with my kids until December of 2015, when the FAA rolled out their Registration regulations. I do not think federal government regulation of amateur, home-built models is reasonable or necessary, nor do I think it will be effective in ensuring safety of operations. I quit flying model aircraft in 2015 as a result of government regulation.”
