“I have been flying model Aviation since I was 16yrs old. My father introduced me to model aviation. This is now my 19th year flying. My son has followed in my footsteps since the age of 6 when he flew his first model aircraft. He is now 12yrs old and very active in model aviation. He now aspires to be a pilot! Recently we took a trip to a local Air museum. We took a tour of the museum and tour guide was completely blown away by this 12yr olds knowledge on historic aircraft. “When asked how does he know so much about aviation?” My son’s answer was “I fly model planes”. Talk about a proud dad moment. I remember last year we had the privilage of attending the new york air show, the USAF Thunderbirds put on an amazing show! After watching the show my son wanted to meet the pilots and get their autographs. One of the pilot was speaking with my son and asked if he wants to be a pilot my son’s response was “Yes, I fly almost every weekend” the conversation deepend turns out that the Thunderbird pilot also started flying as a young man in model aviation. He autographed my sons picture with a note “Keep flying Anthony!” I have no doubt this conversation changed my sons life. He now has been reinforced in his belief that one day he can become a pilot. It would have never happened if it wasn’t for my son’s interest in model aviation. If we lose this hobby I don’t know what I would do. It has given me and my family years of joy, and learning experiences that you just can’t get from reading or watching on TV.”
