“I’m a film maker and VFX artist who’s been creating science-based educational content for museums for over twenty years with a small team. I collaborate with NASA, the National Center for Supercomputing Applications, and many others to create this content. I got into the drone hobby through my work, capturing photogrammetry for our productions. Now, I plan on building an inexpensive acro multirotor capable for capturing cinematic content for 360 degree, 8K digital planetariums. The requirements of such a multirotor are so niche, that no commercial entity would develop it. If I’m able to do it, I would have to be able to deploy it in remote areas where internet access isn’t available. The new regulations would halt this innovation completely. In the process of exploring this idea for work, I became personally interested in FPV multirotor flying. Every weekend I fly around my house, empty local parks, empty community baseball fields, etc. to develop my skills and knowledge. There are no sanctioned flying fields within driving distance, and even if there were, this is not the kind of area that would be useful for enhancing my piloting skills.”
