“I have always been intrigued by model aviation and 6 years ago became an active member in “the hobby” threw building my personal craft it has connected me closer to my community and the model aviation community as well as connecting me to other communities via other hobiests. I’ve seen it help transcend the barriers that social, political, and, religious beliefs often form in our modern society and form friendships between members of opposing beliefs. I’ve learned the basics of amateur radio and antenna theory, concepts of aerodynamics and fluid dynamics, basic electronics, 3d modeling, photography, videography, video editing, mapping, search and rescue. This list goes on and on this is one of the most amazing hobbies and the word hobby undermines the dedication of participants in this vast learning experience model aviation is. What I understand of the NPRM I believe would be unimaginably detrimental to model aviation. The DAC(drone advisory committee) is almost completely comprised of industry and the resulting NPRM seems to me a hastily applied regulation to get BVLOS off the ground to jumpstart a industry with complete disregard to model aviation and its decades old safety record.”
