“I am currently 68 years old and have been flying for about 10 years. I have always loved RC airplanes but did not have time or money to afford flying when I was younger. The innovation of electric RCs and the new spread spectrum radios have really changed the RC landscape for the better, by not having to worry about what frequency your transmitter was using. The electric planes allow you to fly small planes in parks and not in dedicated flying sites. I belong to a flying club but it is over 30 miles from where I live. I go there sometimes to fly my gas plane, but most of my flying is close to home in local parks. If I had to drive to the flying site every time I wanted to fly it would be a big burdon. I understand the FAAs concerns on the increase in drones for commercial use, but this could be controlled separately from recreational flying. My Dad build and flew rubber band and gas powered free flight models when he was a kid in the 1930s, which is where I got my love of airplanes. It is only within the last few years where there are a lot of drone pilots that seem to think they can fly anywhere and without a sense of safety. I can see a need for better education for new pilots. I can see a need for controlling commercial drone pilots or if Amazon was to start delivering packages via drones, which is a real concern of mine as that could be very dangerous. But lumping all flying models into one group does not make sense. My small foam RC planes do not fall into that type of category and should not fall under the same laws and restrictions. I am a member of the AMA an organization that has been around for a long time and promotes safe recreational flying. You should work with them to create a plan that does not overly burdon recreational RC flying.”
